Life is meant to be big fun, a class of 10- and 11-year-olds learned. But they did not have much idea quite how big that fun could be.

Kathy Amati, a teacher at Public School 37 for autistic children on Staten Island, New York, won over her class when she played a Jennifer Lopez music video to them. The pupils loved “Let’s Get Loud” so much that they insisted she play it every day, as they gradually learned the lyrics and dance moves.

With the encouragement of Ms Amati, the children wrote to J.Lo asking for her autograph. The Bronx-born singer and film star wrote back, asking if she could attend their graduation ceremony.

Lopez has not given many performances of late, as she gave birth in February to twins Emme and Max. But last week, to the Staten Island pupils’ delight, she gave them a private performance of “Let’s Get Loud”.

“Life is meant to be big fun”, she sang to them, “so let’s get loud.”

Indeed.
