While it is normal to encourage pupils to become artists, a new scheme aims to transform them into art collectors.

The ECCO! (Encourage Children to Collect Objects) project is being launched by the Quenington Sculpture Trust, which oversees the riverside sculpture gardens of the Quenington Old Rectory near Cirencester in Gloucestershire.

It is holding a range of educational events around its latest exhibition of artwork, which runs until July 7.

Pupils are being invited to watch artists at work, sculpting from scraps of wood. Under 18s can buy specially donated artwork and sketches from Pounds 5.
