A consultation on simple and straightforward guidance to cut red tape around school trips has been launched by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. The guidance aims to give teachers and other staff more confidence in planning trips while helping them to keep children safe. It provides checklist forms to save time, and highlights how employers should support their staff in the event of a child being hurt, so that fears of legal action can be reduced.

The Health and Safety of Learners Outside the Classroom (Hasloc) guidance takes on board feedback from schools and local authorities. The guidance is now much shorter and is designed to be read as and when needed.
