Some 273 schools and nurseries have highlighted Homecoming activities on an interactive map.

Former Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop drew attention to the map during a debate on history education at the Scottish Parliament last week. She believes it will be an important part of the Homecoming year’s legacy.

She said: “As well as encouraging those with Scottish heritage and those with an interest in Scotland to `come home’ and visit, Homecoming has inspired thousands of children and young people to reflect on our nation, its history, heritage and culture and its place in the globalised world of the 21st century.”

MSPs have been promised an update on the progress of the History in Curriculum for Excellence group early in the New Year.
