KS2 teacher for Old Mill Primary - don’t worry, it’s on a hill This week’s job hunters may be adding an Ordnance Survey map to the list of things they consult when checking details about schools. Along with inquiries about school inspection reports, league table positions and local house prices, applicants will be asking “Could it get flooded?” Schools with picturesque names such as Riverside, Lakeside and Waters Meet may find applicants reluctant to face the prospect of the local river as an uninvited guest.
Old Mill Primary in Broughton Astley, Leicestershire, should have no such worries. The mill in question was wind powered and the village sits reassuringly high on a hill. Headteacher Tony Barnett says that gobal warming would have to reach blast furnace temperature before rising water levels threatened his school.
He is looking for a key stage 2 teacher to join his team. It is a permanent post at the large village school, which shares a site with the local secondary school. The Old Mill exists solely in the form of the school’s logo, which seems a shame, but presumably there is lots of scope for topic work on wind power.
