Maths Year 2000 projects

Maths Year 2000 and reading projects, such as Bookstart and the National Reading Campaign’s current Reading Champions programme, have already encouraged parents to get involved in children’s learning. Science will be the next subject under the spotlight but one area that has been overlooked so far is ICT.

The DfEE is taking the first step to increase parental awareness by launching Parents Online Week which runs from Septemer 18-22. The aim is to demonstrate the educational benefits of the Internet, and schools are being encouraged to invite parents and carers into classrooms to surf the net. Libraries will also be offering free surfing for parents throughout the week.

Parents Online has its own website at www.parentsonline.gov.uk, where teachers and parents will find tutorials, resources and the opportunity to enter competitions.
