SCHOOL leaders in Northern Ireland are poised to take industrial action. The National Association of Head Teachers says employers have not kept a pledge to increase the pay of principals and vice-principals, and introduce a new assistant vice-principal grade, after classroom staff gained pound;2,000 pay rises under the threshold scheme.

The association balloted all 800 of its members in the province, and 93 per cent of those returning forms voted for action. A boycott of the performance management scheme will follow unless employers respond.
