(Photograph) - Proving that age is no barrier to learning, Jorjoh Ceesay is celebrating her runner-up place in the 2003 NationalSilver Surfer Awards. The 71-year-old grandmother of four from Colindale, London, was presented wiith a cheque for pound;50 at last month’s launch of NIACE’s Adult Learner’s Week at Vinopolis, London. “I’m elated,” said Jorjoh. “I really didn’t expect this. I want to thank my tutor Nicola Borthwick and Barnet College for running these courses.” Nicola, a tutor on the BBC Becoming Webwise course, said: “Jorjoh has embraced the internet with amazing motivation and enthusiasm - no one could deserve it more.” The competition, open to over-50s students of computing and the internet, is co-ordinated by Hairnet, a computer training organisation specialising in mature learning, and is supported by City amp; Guilds, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE), RM and Age Concern.
