I must take issue with the description of QTLS as “FE’s qualification”. It is not a qualification, it is the Institute for Learning’s (IfL) award of professional status and is confirmed following successful initial teacher training and qualification.
If anything, the professional status of QTLS and the requirement for teachers to carry out at least 30 hours of continuing professional development each year means it is exacting. As their professional body, IfL expects teachers with QTLS to maintain their currency in both teaching methods and their subject or vocational area, and to have a strong focus on excellence in their practice.
