An inner-city secondary school in Leicester has appointed a full-time specialist security officer. The move is believed to be one of the first of its kind in the country.
John Bailey, an ex-police officer, has been appointed to the post at Mundella Community College, which is near a high-crime-risk area of Leicester.
College principal Elizabeth Warren said: “Recent incidents are very much in our minds and Mr Bailey’s appointment means that if there are trespassers on the premises he can deal with them. ”
