RESEARCH reported in last week’s TES claiming that women teachers could still be pound;20,000 in debt 28 years after graduating is incorrect. The Liberal Democrats, who commissioned the figures from the House of Commons’

library, say the library failed to take account of inflation. The corrected figures show women who start university in 2006, when fees could rise to pound;3,000 a year, will take 17 years to pay off an estimated pound;21,000 debt, compared to 14 years for men.
