Teaching assistant to Teacher: Straight to Teaching route

Straight to Teaching is a unique programme that offers great opportunities for career development. This CPD course for teaching assistants is a route for quick transition into fully qualified teaching.

Unlike traditional QTS courses, Straight to Teaching is built around you, taking into account your existing teaching experience to provide you with a programme tailored to your needs. You will have your own experienced Tes Institute pathway tutor to help build your confidence and to ensure your progress towards QTS. Your tutor will personalise your Straight to Teaching programme around your existing experience, as well as visiting and supporting you in school and online. This tailored approach means your programme length will depend on the amount of relevant teaching experience you have – programme lengths range from one to five terms.

Increase your earning potential by becoming a qualified teacher

Becoming a qualified teacher will not only develop your career, it could also increase your earning potential. On successful completion of your Straight to Teaching programme you will be awarded with QTS, a nationally recognised teaching qualification that could increase your earning potential by as much as £7,000*.

Online and in-school teaching qualification support

You will receive online and in-school teaching qualification support throughout your programme. Your in-school experience will be strengthened by online content and access to an e-portfolio, putting you in control of your development and allowing you to shape your QTS programme around commitments at home and in school. Your pathway tutor will work with a dedicated mentor from your school to provide you with the resources you need to build your portfolio of evidence against the Teachers’ Standards.
