ALTHOUGH I was quoted fairly accurately in your report “Vegetarian entree for Jobson” (December 11) a slight variation in language can alter the perception of the points I wished to make.
With regard to: “Bushell (sic) admitted she did sound extremist”, what I said was ”...as extreme as it may sound, the fact is that the foods that we encourage our children to eat and drink are actually more dangerous than drugs”.
Also, after challenging the misconception that children need milk, by asking the perfectly logical question, “if we were really meant to drink (dairy) milk, why do we not suckle cows?”, your reporter says that I went back from there to “safer pastures”. But I was never on shaky ground.
The fact is that most of us have been so brainwashed by the advertising campaigns of the milk marketing boards over the years that we don’t stop to think whether or not any of the messages make any sense.
The MMB repeatedly told us how “milk is full of natural goodness”, conveniently omitting to add that it is only so for calves, not humans. It is not natural or healthy to drink the milk of other species. Milk is only intended for babies anyway, so it’s a nonsense that children should still drink it, and as for adults doing so, that is even more ludicrous. Indeed, the MMB’s brainwashing has been so successful that many people view the natural diet for humans - the vegan diet - as “extreme”.
Anyone who wishes to know more about the extent of the damage that dairy produce can do to the human body should watch Dr Michael Klaper’s video, A Diet for All Reasons, available from the Vegan Society, 7 Battle Road, St Leonards-on-Sea.
