Schools from across Scotland have been awarded the British Council International School Award in its 10th anniversary year for preparing their pupils to live in a globalised world.
Eight Scottish schools from a variety of different backgrounds were presented with their awards by broadcaster and journalist George Alagiah at a ceremony in London earlier this month.
The council sees the International School Award as an important way of recognising schools which have integrated global issues and international awareness into their curriculum.
St Mark’s Primary in Edinburgh won the award for its Life on Earth project, which saw pupils link up with schools in Denmark, Finland, Germany and Norway.
Over the last three years, pupils at the school have built links with children in schools across Europe by exchanging emails, letters, pictures, music and short films. Teachers visited partner schools to evaluate, plan and develop educational opportunities.
The other winners were: Portlethen Academy, Aberdeenshire; Castlehill Primary, Fife; Elgin High, Moray; Kilbowie Primary, West Dunbartonshire; Boghall Primary, West Lothian; Mid Calder Primary, West Lothian; and Sanday Community School, Orkney.
