ACHUKA Children’s Books UK http:www.achuka.co.ukindex.html

The self-styled “chock-full, eyes-peeled, independent children’s books site” more than lives up to its own blurb.

Anyone with an interest in children’s books will find ACHUKA (I don’t know what it means) irresistible.

The site, created by author Michael Thorn, follows the format of a monthly magazine. There are sections on pop-up books, first readers, teenageyoung adult fiction, poetry, non-fiction - all linked to Bookpages, the online book ordering service.

ACHUKA fizzes with enthusiasm for a branch of literature that is too often banished to the darkest corners of review sections.

Chinatown Online http:www.fresco-web.co.ukchinatown The first stage of an ambitious project to give Britain’s Chinese community a presence on the Internet, this site offers an impressive range of services.

Go to the “Guidebook” section for a brief history of Chinese immigration to Britain and a detailed look at life in London’s Chinatown. Move to “Culture” for articles on Chinese philosophy, medicine, language and religion - or to hear snatches of Chinese music.

Equally, it can be used simply to find a decent Chinese restaurant in London, to find out where to consult a horoscope, or to see your name written in Chinese characters. In development are online shopping services and guides to the Chinatowns of Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool.
