Strike action at Sandwell College has been called off following progress in pay talks. Staff were due to walk out tomorrow for four days in a row over pay, having already taken five days of strike action since February.

The plans were announced last week, when the college was one of a total of 10 in which University and College Union (UCU) members said they would take strike action.

But now, positive discussions with college management on pay have led to an agreement in principle, which is expected to be signed off by both sides tomorrow.

Other strikes go ahead

UCU has therefore called off the strike action. Regional official Anne O’Sullivan said: “We expect to formalise the agreement with management in our meeting with them tomorrow.”

Strike action at all other colleges is continuing as planned, according to the union.
