Summer school was a huge hit

A summer school designed to fuel maths teachers’ enthusiasm for their subject may become an annual fixture after teachers said the first one was a great success.

Some 95 per cent of participants surveyed about their stay at Robinson College, Cambridge, earlier this month said it had been worthwhile, despite reports that some were left scratching their heads at the trickier maths discussed. One said it was the best professional development event he had attended.

The first national summer school for maths teachers was the brainchild of Tony Gardiner, a Birmingham University educationist. It was supported by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics.
