Brighton College has announced plans to open its first international schools in Europe in Rome, Madrid and Lisbon.
The schools will begin accepting admissions from January 2026 in time for the first students to begin studying in September 2027. Each school will offer education from age 3 to 18, with boarding facilities offered at each campus.
Richard Cairns, group CEO of Brighton College, said the school was confident of high demand in each city.
“There is undoubtedly an influx back into mainland Europe of parents who have learned to value UK private education highly, and we anticipate significant demand and excitement in Madrid, Rome and Lisbon,” he said.
Brighton College’s international growth
Brighton already has sites in other continents, including in Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and Abu Dhabi, and the new schools will take its total to 13 schools. The new schools in Europe are being opened in partnership with Intellego Education.
The plans come amid strong growth in the international schools sector, with recent ISC Research data showing that there are now more than 15,000 English-medium international schools operating around the world.
Much of this growth is being driven by large groups acquiring schools, with many increasingly looking to expand their footprint in new markets in South America, such as in Uruguay, Chile and Colombia.
Elsewhere, other UK private schools like Bedford School, Wellington College and Royal Grammar School, Guildford are expanding their presence in countries like Nigeria and India.
