Students at thousands of international schools today received the results of their Cambridge International AS and A levels, as the August exam results season begins.
Overall, 354,000 students in 3,367 schools in 129 countries have received International AS- and A-level results today, Cambridge said, which equated to more than 700,000 entries, up 11 per cent on 2024.
“Congratulations to all those receiving Cambridge results this August,” said Rod Smith, group managing director of international education at Cambridge.
“We are proud to support a global community of learners who are preparing not only for university and careers but for life in a rapidly changing world.”
Cambridge International AS and A-level results
The organisation revealed that the most popular subjects studied were, in order: English General Paper, mathematics, physics, chemistry and English language.
It also said entries for its global perspectives A and AS level were up 17 per cent this year, which Mr Smith said underlined how schools and students were aware of the need to understand the complexity of the modern world.
“As AI transforms the job market, and as climate and global issues demand collaborative solutions, it’s no surprise that more schools are seeking subjects that equip their students to think beyond borders,” he said.
Cambridge also shared details with Tes of some of its most popular subjects by major regions, as outlined below.
Meanwhile, 305,000 students who sat Cambridge IGCSE and O levels at 4,779 schools earlier this summer still have a week to wait for their results, which will be issued on 19 August.
Overall, across both international A and AS levels and IGCSEs, Cambridge said entries had risen by 9 per cent, driven not just by international schools but also state schools, chiefly in the US, where entries grew by 15 per cent.
Cambridge also pointed to an 11 per cent rise in entries in China, driven by both international schools and bilingual schools.
Mr Smith said this demonstrated that more people were recognising that the “the awareness and perspective” that a broad international education brings is “not just an advantage, it’s a necessity”.
Last month the International Baccalaureate released its summer exam results, while state school students in England will receive their A-level results on Thursday 14 August and GCSEs on Thursday 21 August.
