THE CREATION of one teachers’ union (TES, April 2) is as unlikely as ever, especially with the current increased threat of strike action.
The Professional Association of Teachers was founded by teachers who believe that the profession puts the learner (pupil, student or adult) first.
Our members expect to negotiate over disputes, not to walk out. With its no-strike principle and independence from the Trades Union Congress, PAT is unique among the teacher unions. PAT’s no-strike rule means that there will always be a need for at least two teacher unions.
