Pupils at Pemberton business and enterprise college, in Wigan, Lancashire, can get their frothy coffee fix and even open a bank account at a “shopping mall” built by pupils inside the school.
The mall, which also has a travel agency and a sweet shop, is staffed by enterprising teenagers as the school tries to foster business understanding.
Four maths whizzes in Year 10 have been trained as cashiers by the Abbeybank, and pupils can open current accounts in their breaks.
United Co-op is to train Year 10 and 11 pupils after Christmas and Judith Bond, assistant head, hopes some Year 11 pupils will be offered jobs in the United Co-op’s travel division in July.
Sponsorship from Heinz of pound;30,000 helped the school to become an enterprise college in September last year. The cash was used to build a construction skills centre.
