International schools group Globeducate has expanded into Lithuania by acquiring a network of kindergartens and a school with campuses in Vilnius, the capital, and Kaunas, the second-largest city in the country.
The nursery group is called Vaikystės Sodas and runs 11 kindergartens in four Lithuanian cities: Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Panevėžys.
The school, Queen Morta School, meanwhile, operates in Vilnius and Kaunas and combines its own contextual curriculum and the Lithuanian national curriculum with Cambridge and International Baccalaureate programmes.
Earlier this year, Queen Morta became the first school in Vilnius and Kaunas authorised to offer three IB programmes - the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme.
Altogether the nurseries and schools serve more than 1,700 children and young people.
‘International network of opportunities’
Commenting on the deal, Daniel Jones, chief education officer at Globeducate, praised Queen Morta School for its “academic excellence” and “full development of every student”.
He said the deal will give pupils and teachers “access to an international network of opportunities”, including events and school exchanges, as well as sharing “best practice and collaborating with other schools within the group” .
The Globeducate announcement is further evidence of the steady growth of international school groups and follows other significant deals in recent months including Dukes Education expanding into Canada and Germany, and Taylor’s Schools acquiring its first schools in Thailand.
