About primary schools
UK state primary schools take pupils from age five to 11, with some splitting infant and junior levels. Children aged between five and seven (Year 1 and Year 2) are taught Key Stage 1, while those aged seven to 11 (Year 3,4,5 and 6) are taught Key Stage 2. Children are assessed against National Curriculum targets using tests commonly referred to as SATs.
