This story map can be used for Early Years and KS1. I used the story text from Twinkl to go with it. Also, we used different characters during to change the story a bit. Templates with gaps in a story map: page 1- cut out and use one of the substitute characters, page 2- children can draw their own characters.

Three Little Camels is a story that is based on Three Little Pigs. You can use it as an alternative story or if you can’t use a picture or any relevance to a pig due to cultural context. The resources is designed to help the children memorise the text and then retell it (write it down if possible). It contains a story that has been adopted and a story map. Remember you can use it as a starting point changing characters or settings. Please get in touch if you would like a story map with gaps to substitute characters.

In this version LRH: 1. plants the corn 2. waters the corn 3. cuts the corn 4. brings the corn to the mill 5. grinds the corn 6. kneads the bread (or dough) 7. bakes the bread 8. asking who is going to help her eat the bread characters: lazy dog, sleepy cat, noisy duck Aimed at Nursery and Reception, but could be easily adapted for Yr 1 or 2. LO toppers and success criteria are included (s.c. – for the final write task) Lesson 1 – discuss key features and get the children to identify on ‘bread making’ text. Then get feedback and show slides 4-5 with answers. Lesson 2 – we did cooking (stir fry, fruit salad and smoothies) Lesson 3 – children to ‘box up’ (use one of the planning frames) and then write up their own recipes. Could be done on computers. Homework to reinforce understanding.
