Africa - Lesson 2 - Africa's Relief

(8)
A new scheme of work I've created for year 9, all about Africa. The aim is to prepare Y9 pupils for GCSE Geography (particularly the Edexcel B specification) by learning about physical and human aspects of Africa&'s geography with a focus on geographical skills. There is a wide range of activities and resources - and it is around 13 lessons in total - with more to come! This lesson also has two additional worksheets

A-Level Coasts: Edexcel

This is the complete set of lessons for Coasts as part of the A-Level Geography course for Edexcel. Made from September 2020 to January 2021. A majority of the exam questions contain model answers, and the powerpoints are fully resourced with maps, embedded videos, and animated GIFs. They use ‘point’ > ‘develop’ > ‘double-develop’ for developing chains of reasoning similar to the Edexcel mark schemes. For extended responses the paragraphing structure follows ‘A,K,U’ structure where ‘A’ is assessment (AO2), and ‘K’ (knowledge) and ‘U’ (understanding) form AO2. Page references refer to the OUP Edexcel A-Level Geography book (one with the chameleon on the front).

This is a personal learning checklist (PLC) for the Edexcel B specification. There is a long version, and a short one which can be printed onto a single sheet of A4 (small font size, however!) Can be used for students to plan their revision and also used in class to keep a track of teaching. The page numbers refer to the CGP revision guide for Edexcel B

This powerpoint is a useful revision resource for the Edexcel B UK paper 2 - fieldwork enquiry. The 6 stages of the fieldwork cycle are represented with a wide array of exam questions, including model answers. You can navigate back to the first slide. This is designed to be used in conjunction with the fieldwork A3 knowledge organisers (rivers and/or urban). All of my lessons follow the Edexcel B spec closely. They use ‘point’ > ‘develop’ > ‘double-develop’ for developing chains of reasoning similar to the Edexcel mark schemes. For 8-mark extended writing we use the ‘A,K,U’ structure where ‘A’ is assessment (AO3), ‘K’ is knowledge (AO1/AO4), and ‘U’ is understanding (AO2).

Edexcel B UK paper 2: RIVERS fieldwork A3 [A2] knowledge organiser

This useful A3 knowledge organiser for the fieldwork was used for the River Tillingbourne (in the Surrey Hills) and it covers all of the required knowledge and understanding for 6-stage geographical fieldwork (planning, method, presentation, analysis, conclusion, evaluation). Although this is specific to location, much of it is generic river systems content. This can be used for quizzing, revision, and exam preparation. *Due to its size, this was printed A2

Edexcel B paper 2 RIVERS & URBAN FIELDWORK CAPTURE SHEET (A2 or A3)

This was a very useful capture sheet for students to work through following their fieldwork experiences in river landscapes and urban areas (Stratford Olympic Park). This file contains TWO pages (only one visible on preview) I have also attached a model of what it should or could look like. This sheet would need to be adapted for each school’s specific fieldwork context, but the knowledge & understanding required for the six phases (planning, method, data presentation, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation) of fieldwork are covered here.

Question Level Analysis - QLA - for Edexcel B Geography

(0)
This is a QLA for Edexcel B Geography (new spec). This is very useful in analysing student performance across papers, using conditional formatting and formulae to calculate overall scores and percentages. There is even a formula that can calculate the overall 3+, 4+, 5+ percentages (can be changed depending on grade boundaries). Please contact me if you’d like any advice on how best to use this.

Global paper 1 (Edexcel B Geography) - L4 Evidence of climate change in the past

This lesson covers the evidence of climate change, and students then assess the reliability of the evidence using criteria established in the table. Plenty of opportunity to discuss SPACE and TIME (small-scale, large-scale, short-term, long-term). All of my lessons follow the Edexcel B spec closely. They use ‘point’ > ‘develop’ > ‘double-develop’ for developing chains of reasoning similar to the Edexcel mark schemes. This lesson covers the shift of the ITCZ north and south, and with the axial tilt the formation of semi-arid climates with dry seasons and wet seasons. It contains some homemade animations to demonstrate this complicated idea! Certainly one to challenge the higher-ability students. Global paper 1 (Edexcel B Geography) - L3 natural causes of climate change

This lesson covers the natural causes of climate change, but extends students to think about the timescales and speed of onset. This then can form the basis of an ‘assess the causes of natural climate change’, or a comparison with human-induced anthropogenic climate change. Although this is specific to location, much of it is generic urban/regeneration fieldwork content which can be applied and adapted to different contexts.
