Love & Relationships Poetry Cluster (AQA GCSE)

(3)
This is the PPT for an entire unit of work covering all of the poems in the AQA GCSE 'Love and Relationships' poetry cluster. It is designed with the new spec (teaching from Sept 2015) in mind. PLEASE NOTE: I made this PPT for a student who I home school privately. So: although it IS targeted towards the AQA mark scheme and DOES contain a mix of learning activities/styles, it IS NOT differentiated for a mixed ability group and will therefore need tweaking before using with a whole class.

This resource includes a PPT and supportive worksheets for an OUTSTANDING Y9 mixed ability lesson (made for an observation), in which students write speeches collaboratively, participate in a whole class debate and then vote for a winning group. L.O.s: - Evaluate the impact of different characters roles on Juliet’s death. - Explain and justify your ideas, using quotes to support them. The lesson is differentiated, includes a variety of formative assessment methods and appeals to a variety of learning styles. It could easily be adapted to suit Y7 to Y11 classes.

OUTSTANDING KS3 Newspapers lesson and follow up assessment

(0)
This resource covers two lessons towards the end of a KS3 newspapers SOW. The first lesson (PPT and worksheet included) uses hot seating of an X Factor judge to give students material for a tabloid newspaper article (this lesson was rated OUTSTANDING when delivered by myself and another colleague on separate occassions). The next lesson (PPT and help sheet) gives the students opportunity to write up their article for assessment. Please note: this lesson is highly accessible and enjoyable for all students, but (WARNING!) requires some acting from the teacher!

This is a lesson covering Louis MacNeice’s ‘Prayer Before Birth’ from the Edexcel IGCSE syllabus. The lesson combines a variety of activity styles and is differentiated, making it an ideal observation lesson. As an engaging standalone lesson, it could also be used by AQA GCSE students as an ‘unseen poem’.

Successful KS3 Interview Lesson - The Art of Rhetoric

(0)
These are the resources for a 50 minute interview lesson. My lesson was with a Year 7 mixed ability class on the subject of ‘the art of rhetoric’. In the session, students are introduced to a variety of rhetorical devices and are given the opportunity to use them in their own persuasive writing. The plan requires students to work individually, in pairs and in groups, and differentiation is accounted for. The resources could quite easily be adapted for older classes. The lesson was well received by students and observing staff, and I got the job!

Romeo and Juliet Scheme of Work PPT

This PPT supports the teaching of the entirety of 'Romeo and Juliet' with 70 visually appealing, self explanatory slides. Please note: I made this PPT for a student who I home school, so although it does contain a variety of activities and support a range of learning styles, it will need tweaking in order to differentiate for a mixed ability class.

This lesson plan was produced for a (successful) interview and covers a 3 hour KS4 session. It could easily be adapted into two or three shorter sessions, and would work well for intervention or revision sessions, as it has a close focus on developing analytical writing skills.

Frankenstein Revision Tasks (AQA GCSE / KS4 / Y11)

(0)
This is a small selection of revision tasks for students who have studied Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and are preparing for the AQA GCSE English Literature exam. The tasks are relatively open ended and independent, and would work particularly well for revision/intervention sessions. They could be completed individually or in pairs/groups.

AQA Exam Summary: Student Friendly Summary

This is just a simple document which I have made for my students which sums up every question they will have to answer across the AQA English Literature and English Language papers with the current specification. It gives a simple technique for each of the language paper questions, and a few ideas for how to prepare for each exam. It refers to specific texts so you will need to amend slightly if your students are studying different ones.
