Musical Art project

Music, art, poetry - with the idea that music has layers and textures as does art. I used many different genres of music with the idea that many composers fuse styles of music together as do some artists. The poetry was idea from Pie Corbett and it worked very well. Big thanks to Pie for kindly writing us a poem that inspired everyone so much!

Music SoW for whole school for one half term.

This year I'm teaching music to the whole school every week and am creating a scheme of work as I go along. I&'d be interested in what you think - can you follow it? Could you use it and be successful? etc I don&';t know if it's in too much &'me speak&'; or whether it's ok for others... ta! Y4 - 6 followed the same plan so they could all learn the same musical terminology as a base for next half term - next half term they will be having different plans. Ta :)

Character Profile Planning Sheet - Easily Adaptable

This is a planning resource which is easily adaptable for whatever you are doing. In this PPT it is for a monster. This has previously been a free resource on the TES but it's had so many downloads (4347) and a few great 5* reviews that I thought I'd make it a paid for, but cheap resource!

Syllables for Spelling

This PPT is for one whole lesson + extra as required. It teaches children how to recognise syllables and then, how to use this knowledge for spelling. I used it as an Ofsted lesson about 4 years ago and was graded outstanding. It has previously been on the TES as a free resource,

Lines for Handwriting

I teach in Year 3 and find these lines are about right for aiding good handwriting. They have the three part structure and I coloured the middle part (for small letters) in yellow. I found that some lines were too wide for Y3 and so I adapted these lines to make them narrower. You can alter the size of the line simply by clicking on part of the image on the slide. I have included targets I use. Again, these can be edited. The font I used is Sassoon Primary so it may look different if you don’t have that font. I use these sheets for specific handwriting lessons although I did used them all the time in Year 1 but started with wider lines and gradually got narrower as the year progressed and their handwriting becoming more mature. They really help children to see the ‘three parts’ for tall letters, small letters and loops/descenders.

Recipe Sentences - for Grammar/SPAG

I created ‘Recipe Sentences’ of a way of helping the children in my Year 3 class to learn, and keep remembering how to use grammar in writing. I wanted to find a way that was creative and enjoyable. This resource has an explanation about how I have used it in my teaching. It has whole class warm up pages that could be targeted at different ability groups. It also has 3 differentiated sheets for independent writing. It is written in the Cambria font which hopefully won't need altering.

Times Tables With A Friend

The idea of this activity is that children work in pairs to learn their times tables even if they are at different places in their learning of them. The first slide of the PPT has a detailed description of how this works. It is suitable for all children who are learning their X tables, no matter which ones they are learning. Children can easily work in mixed ability pairs. It can be used as a starter or as a stand alone activity.

Making a WW2 timeline

(1)
We made 'concertina-like' pieces of card - narrow etc. Then the children cut out their pieces of the timeline - from the sheets at the end of the ppt - and stuck them on. Differentiated sheets, some had to go and find the dates from the timeline themselves.

Musical Elements Progression of Skills with ideas.

I’ve just written this document of a progression of skills in the musical elements for primary. I’ve tried to include ideas and now make it too complicated for non-specialists. I saw a document somebody else had written ( no idea who…sorry) which gave me the idea. It’s not a copy at all of their ideas, it’s been used as a starting point and I wrote my own version.
