Roman Top Trumps Cards

Pupils can use the template to create a Top Trumps card for a Roman citizen. There is a sheet with some ideas of types of Roman people, but objects could also be included (e.g. the ballista). Their knowledge of the Romans should come through when choosing the rating (could be out of 10 or 100). Once they have made their card, they can play Top Trumps together. They could also be laminated and kept for future years when teaching the Romans. This template could be used with a range of topics. I have previously used it with the topic of Victorians, too.

Informal and Formal Language Task KS2

Pupils read out the passages of text on the Word document first, and the language was discussed. Then pupils were given a selection of words/phrases to stick on the informal/formal language scale (Publisher documents). The Publisher document includes differentiated word/phrase lists. It was used as a cross-curricular activity so it has a Roman theme.

Roman Banquet Drama Script

(1)
This script was used to act out a Roman banquet with the whole class. We then used the drama as a stimulus for a story written in a historical context. The drama was used to plan each section of the story and then pupils had to create their own ending, which is why the scripts ends with a 'freeze'. To carry out the script, we assigned everyone to their roles first and had a brief walk through, before acting it out in character. The teacher played the emperor to lead the drama.

This resource is aimed at Year 3 looking at 3, 4 and 8 times tables, but can be edited for other times tables. I've added a visual section to draw, to help with working out and also show their mental working out.
