A healthy eating or food topic diversity song for EYFS/KS1 with lyrics and music: We're making soup

(0)
‘We’re making soup for dinner’ is a simple, fun and interactive song that exemplifies the richness of diversity through adding a variety of diverse vegetables to the soup pot. It is an action song that encourages the children to explore a wide range of vegetables - some familiar to them, and some that may be new - from across the world. It allows you to incorporate a range of vegetables (and later foods) that the children may be used to eating at home, thus making the song a fully inclusive experience for all children, whether or not they are native English speakers. A great song to teach listening skills and healthy eating. It can be used as part of a music session by EYFS/KS1 music specialists, or as part of topic-based learning by generalist teachers, teaching assistants, and other professionals too! This resource, uploaded in February 2024 features: The lyric sheet An mp3 sing-along vocal track, An mp3 instrumental-only track, (for when you feel confident to sing your own versions of the song) Black and white printables It’s suitable for 3-7-year-olds, but could also be used for older primary aged children by using more extensive and varied vegetable resources. Alternatively, you could adapt the ingredients to other food sources or even change the focus entirely, for example: ‘We’re planting seeds today’ etc. This song is a great conversation starter - it opens up the possibility to talk about how we may eat and enjoy different sorts of vegetables, depending upon our own cultures and customs at home, and how it is always great to have the opportunity to taste and try new things. This is a great healthy eating activity for EYFS children, or as a way to explore where food comes from for KS1 children. How we use this resource: In order to really effectively share this song, you will need: a soup ‘pot’ and a selection of vegetables - either toys or colourful pictures (a range of vegetables are provided in our adult song support pack). Begin by giving each child a small selection of varied vegetables to start with - perhaps just one or two (you can always increase the amount as the children become more familiar with the song). The premise of the song is that the children will need to listen out for the names of the vegetables, and then add them to the pot when instructed. There are also a number of actions for them to join in with, such as filling the pot with water, chopping the vegetables, adding salt and pepper, and getting very hot from all their cooking. Start by reading through the lyrics and listening to, and learning, the song yourself, so that you feel confident in sharing it with the children ( - don’t worry about the quality of your own singing voice - all they need to join in, is to see your enthusiasm for singing with them!), then share it with the children. The la-la song - A circle song for early years’ learners (0-5 year olds)

At last! Musicbuds is here offering an exceptional range of original and well-crafted resources underpinning common musical objectives whilst focused on prominent EYFS themes. Aimed at all Early Years’ practitioners from class teachers, music specialists, teaching assistants, playgroup leaders to EAL and SEND support teachers. This song was originally written for a group of young children who were all second English language speakers, with varying degrees of language development. The 'la-la' part of the song was written so that everyone could join in. The kinaesthetic approach – ‘doing’ as you sing was an easy way to demonstrate language (whilst singing it). The musical inspiration for the music was the circular Greek songs often performed at weddings! Can be used as a stand-alone circle song/part of Circle time; a physical song to develop bilateral integration (using two hands/feet together in a coordinated manner e.g. clapping/stamping) or reciprocal movements (where first one hand or leg and then the other carries out the same movement in a rhythmical way) or as Song 6 in our 30-minute music and movement session. Each song includes: 1) A comprehensive lesson plan -highlighting EYFS and Music objectives covered -directions on classroom management -recommended list of props/visual aids -ideas for Extended learning  -inclusive planning for children with EAL/SEND profiles -different ways to deliver the material from Music/EYFS perspectives -formatted to allow easy cut-and-paste options into planning documents 2) Audio tracks - vocal & backing 3) Sheet music - for piano & guitar 4) Lyrics  -teachers’ lyrics with directions for classroom management  -children’s lyrics suitable for a Songbook

Pull the circle out - A giant elastic song for early years’ learners (0-5 year olds)

This song was written for ‘Circle Time’ or ‘Emotional Literacy’ time – a reflective period during the week when children are faced with objectives regarding their personal, social and emotional development. Inspired by some of the Orff-style circle activities including the ‘cup song’, this was written to encourage children to work as a team. It introduces a rock ’n’ roll walking bass providing a solid, rhythmical underpinning. Children can feel the pulse as they follow the actions which are mirrored through distinctions in pitch (e.g. ‘up’ is sung an octave higher than ‘down’). Can be used as a stand-alone giant elastic song; as part of a lesson on prepositions; as part of a physical lesson developing muscular strength and body awareness or as Song 7 in our 30-minute music and movement session.

This song was written explicitly to help children cross their imaginary midline (essential in developing a ‘dominant’ hand) by making arcs with the rainbow ribbons. The repeated rhythms and gently undulating melody line support the development of the actions required and the modulation from major to minor adds harmonic interest to the music. Can be used as a stand-alone rainbow song; a physical song to encourage children to cross their midline or as Song 9 in our 30-minute music and movement session.

Without a sound - A classroom management song for early years’ learners (0-5 year olds)

This is an essential ‘tidy up’ song and, although written to clear away percussion instruments at the end of a session, it works just as well for tidying up resources in other situations too. The minor melody in 3/4 time gives a lilting, reflective quality to the music. Because it is in a legato style (smooth), with a gently moving accompaniment, the music encourages the children to place their instruments away gently without disrupting the musical flow. Can be used as a stand-alone classroom management song for tidying away musical instruments (or any other classroom resources) or as Song 10 in our 30-minute music and movement session.

This song was written to encourage children to work as a team and concentrate for extended periods of time so that the flow of the ball is never interrupted.
