All About Me Questionnaire

(0)
This All About Me questionnaire is for students of a new subject or form class to complete so that the teacher can get to know them on a personal level. It is a great tool for classroom management and can be referred to at any stage. A timer of 10 minutes is displayed on the board and the teacher can walk around the room, gauging students’ behaviour and attitudes towards the activity. Students then hand in their questionnaires and the teacher can read them and make notes at a later stage. If they want to, the teacher could also share a few facts about themselves to build rapport with the class. If there is a popular choice of sport, book or TV show amongst the class, the teacher could adapt future lessons to include a worked example or picture relative to this information. This is a powerful way to engage students and link their interests with the subject matter. It can be differentiated by changing the type of questions, number of questions or the language used. A Spanish version has also been uploaded; students could be asked to complete it in a different language or EAL students could be asked to complete it in their home language.

Wave Equation Introduction and Unit Sort

(0)
Total time for presentation and activity: 1 hour The presentation slides introduce student’s to the wave equation and provides worked examples to practice their understanding of changing units and standard form. It usually lasts around 40 minutes and students should be encouraged to make notes in their books and ask questions. The unit sort activity puts this understanding into practice by exercising the wave equation with units and standard form. Therefore, it could be used as a mathematical or scientific task, or a combination of both! It is prepared for up to 48 students and usually lasts around 20 minutes, but can be tailored to be shorter or longer by introducing timed aspects, managing interaction and providing incentives. It can be easily differentiated to include other units or standard form prefixes and the teacher can also be selective. The presentation also includes an SI prefix table to aid students which could be printed off for classwork books.

This unit sort activity puts understanding into practice by exercising the ohm’s law equation (V=IR) with units and standard form. Therefore, it could be used as a mathematical or scientific task, or a combination of both! It is prepared for up to 24 students (students could be paired to accommodate larger numbers) and usually lasts around 20 minutes, but can be tailored to be shorter or longer by introducing timed aspects, managing interaction and providing incentives. It can be easily differentiated to include other units or standard form prefixes and the teacher can also be selective. The handouts also include an SI prefix table to aid students which could be printed off and stuck into classwork books.
