Beginner to B1 English Curriculum
Tired of jumping between random worksheets that don’t quite fit together? I have built this curriculum to solve the “resource-hunt” struggle. This is a battle-tested, 20-week scheme of work designed to take absolute beginners through the A1/A2 hurdles and straight into B1 independence.
I have structured this using the PPP (Presentation, Practice, Production) framework, so it is genuinely “plug-and-play.” Whether you are a freelance tutor or handling a large ESOL class, these plans give you the structure to walk in and teach without spending your Sunday evening planning from scratch.
What is actually in the download?
The curriculum is split into four logical blocks that mirror a student’s natural progression:
The Survival Phase (Module 1): Real-world basics—shopping, directions, and time.
The Grammar Foundation (Module 2): Locking in the Present Simple, Continuous, and Past Simple with actual “freer practice” that gets them talking.
Expanding Range (Module 3): Moving into the future (will/going to) and teaching students how to actually express an opinion.
The B1 Bridge (Module 4): This is where it gets serious—Present Perfect and the First Conditional, finishing with a solid writing task and a B1-specific marking rubric.
Why this works in a real classroom:
I have included things that textbooks usually miss:
L1 “Watch-outs”: Specific notes on common errors for Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Slavic, and East Asian speakers.
Mixed-Ability Tips: Practical advice on how to stretch your fast finishers without leaving the rest of the class behind.
The Oxford 3000 Roadmap: Vocabulary targets that actually matter.
Full Scripts: If you are a new teacher (CELTA/TEFL), I have included modelled dialogues to help you navigate tricky explanations.
Perfect for:
Private tutors, language school staff, or volunteers who need a professional, cohesive syllabus that doesn’t feel like a collection of random “fun” activities.
The Essentials:
Grammar: To Be, all core tenses, First Conditional, Comparatives, Modals.
Skills: Transactional English, B1-level writing, and opinion-sharing.
Format: 12 deep-dive plans + a 20-week sequencing guide.
