Circle of Control - Circle of Influence
The A Confident ME circle of influence includes things you can impact indirectly, like other people’s behaviour or your relationships with others.
The Circle of Influence is a model from Stephen Covey’s book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People that helps distinguish between what you can control and what you can’t control, but also what you can have influence over.
The Circle of Influence is a proactive tool that empowers young people to make a difference in a situation. It is the space between what you can directly control and what you cannot.
Helping young people understand the power of their influence over a situation, and others, through their actions, attitude, communication and consistency doesn’t command control over the choices or feelings of others but can positively affect the situation. In doing so you are less likely to adopt a reactive mindset. When we focus on factors outside of our control, such as other people’s choices or rules that are in place, we drain our energy and are reduced to feelings of helplessness or victimhood.
This fabulous resource is 5 pages and helps young people filter what areas of their struggle can be changed and what to let go of.
