Metacognitive Reflection Questions for Reading Comprehension with Makaton KS2

(0)
A full set of Metacognitive Reflection Questions with Makaton signs for KS2. Metacognitive reflection helps children with reading comprehension by turning passive decoding into active meaning‑making: when children pause to ask themselves whether a passage makes sense, predict what will happen next, or summarise what they’ve read, they monitor understanding and apply targeted strategies (rereading, questioning, using context clues) when comprehension breaks down. This self‑monitoring builds independence, improves inference and summarisation skills, and transfers across subjects, so learners become better at using reading as a tool for learning, not just word recognition.

CREATIVE WRITING - FLIP THE GENRE - HANSEL & GRETEL AS A HORROR STORY

FLIP THE GENRE CREATIVE WRITING LESSON This is such a fun Creative Writing lesson! My Year 6 class loved it so much. Read the original story to your class - they actually LOVE the original version no matter their age. My Year 6 children’s faces lit up when I read them the picture book. You then tell them that they are going to FLIP THE GENRE and re-write the story in the form of a HORROR. Show them the example posted here of a rewritten story of HANSEL AND GRETEL AS A HORROR STORY. I have INCLUDED a full break-down of how I achieved this which you should go through with the children so they can follow the model. The children then have a go at writing their own using the model given here. It really inspired my class and they were so motivated to write their HORROR STORIES. I have other FLIP THE GENRE examples for sale. I teach in a private school in London and run 11+ English tuition groups. Check out my website for more information.
