This is a descriptive writing task based on the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan. The worksheet contains different grammatical challenges for students to include in their paragraphs to make their writing more engaging. Activity in which students use contextual information to consider events from the novella in which they refer to. Followed by analytical paragraph activity, with the expectation of using the contextual detail.

A revision scheme of work written to build on knowledge obtained during the first reading of the play. Used effectively in the lead up to exams!

This is an example of an activity used with a Year 11 class in preparation for their Narrative Writing assessment. The idea is to plan and write aspects of a narrative together, sharing ideas, and giving the students specific components to try and include. The example is with the title ‘Broken Promise’. It was particularly effective with lower ability students, or students or struggle to write creatively.

Used for a lower ability Year 9 class, but can be adapted. Uses the song ‘Sun Comes Up’ to help define and identify word classes, and then use specific vocabulary from the song to answer a question on how love is presented.

This is an activity where pupils use an extract from Macbeth, and adapt it to fit the conventions of a narrative. It tests their knowledge of the extract, as well as their ability to write creatively. Can be used for any extract in the play
