This is a complete project for KS3, possibly lower ability KS4 or high ability KS2. It could be easily extended for a longer period of time but is currently designed for 6 lessons. Contained in this bundle are teachers notes, student project pack, powerpoint presentation, handouts and resources. The project contains elements of business, maths and real life applications. Students are required to work in groups; they each undertake a role in the business - either Finance Director, Marketing Director or Managing Director. Between them they are responsible for the running of a tuck shop business to include buying products, market research, special offers, advertising, calculating profit and loss, controlling selling prices and diversifying.

Resources include a relevant starter, an explanation of the difference between qualitative, quantitative, discrete and continuous data and a card sort activity.

Used for a Year 7 class to teach the order of operations starting with the basics of just adding/subtracting and multiplying/dividing. I found this a useful way to introduce the topic, as from experience, students struggle to understand why they can sometimes perform subtraction before addition, when this is taught as BIDMAS alone. Included is a song if you click on the smiley face picture - it is very catchy - my year 7 girls have been known in previous years to dance to the track… Also included is a self-assessment rubric that could be used near the end of your teaching/before any assessment of the topic. This lesson was used for a middle ability Year 7 class but could be adapted to suit. Included in the lesson is a rhyme to help students remember the difference between mean, median, mode and range. (to the tune of Hey Diddle Diddle). The starter & plenary included are a class based data collection activity which should help to reinforce the meaning of ‘average’ and its application in real life. Here is a starter I have made for students to discuss mathematical language using a 4 Pics 1 Word concept ( a popular app). Language includes ‘intersect’, ‘power’, ‘pi’ etc. Easily adaptable Bargain price for what I believe to be a great little starter activity.
