This is a 7 week plan for the Year 2 Science unit - Living things and their habitat. Each week includes a learning objective, activities to achieve this as well as the key learning that will take place. Key vocabulary and assessment questions are also included as well as common misconceptions that may need to be addressed. Feel free to check out my pre/post quiz to compliment this unit.

One side of A4 knowledge organiser to go with a Year 2 unit on the History of Toys. It includes key knowledge, skills and vocabulary that will be learnt through the topic. It also includes a pictoral timeline of toys through the ages.

This assessment sheet is designed to be carried out at the beginning and the end of the unit to assess progress. Results from the ‘pre quiz’ should help you inform your planning. You’ll see what they already know, any errors and misconceptions that need to be addressed. After teaching the unit the children take the same quiz to hopefully see an improvement in their scores and lots of progress made!

After completing the quiz at the beginning of the unit you should be able to see what the children already know, any errors and misconceptions that need to be addressed. This can be used to inform your planning. At the end of the topic, the children take the same quiz again to see if their scores have improved.

This assessment sheet is designed to be carried out at the beginning of your unit on Plants and then again at the end to compare results. It is a double sided editable word document focusing on the Science objectives for Year 2 Plants. At the beginning of the unit you can assess your results to see what you need to focus on in the lessons, what the children already know and if there are any misconceptions that need to be addressed. Hopefully when they take the quiz again at the end of the unit, their scores will have improved.

This assessment sheet is designed to be carried out at the beginning and the end of your Year 2 Science unit on Materials to assess what the children have learnt during the unit. Scores can be compared. The ‘pre quiz’ at the beginning of the unit will give you some understanding of what the children already know before you teach the topic. The results can help you decide on areas that may need more focus, misconceptions that need to be addressed etc. The ‘post quiz’ will hopefully show you how much they have progressed after the taught unit! It is an editable word document over 2 sides of A4. The assessment sheet addresses the 2 main objectives: ‘Identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials for particular uses’ and ‘find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.’
