Unplugged Computing & AI The Primary Teacher's Field Guide
For the past couple of years I’ve been posting a screen-free computing activity every week as #UnpluggedThursday. A lot of you have asked if there’s somewhere they’re all in one place.
There is now.
Unplugged Computing & AI: The Primary Teacher’s Field Guide collects 16 of those activities in one printable guide, organised by phase from EYFS to Year 6. Each one has timings, materials and step-by-step instructions, and many include differentiation and curriculum links.
A few that are in there:
The Buggy Nursery Rhyme, which teaches debugging to four-year-olds through “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”
The Play-Doh Password, which shows how hashing keeps passwords safe
The Human Autocomplete, which uses a beanbag to show how ChatGPT predicts words and why it hallucinates
The Biased Bouncer, about training data and why AI isn’t automatically fair
None of them need a device, and most need little more than a carpet, a beanbag or a tub of Play-Doh.
If you’ve tried any of the activities in your classroom, I’d love to hear how it went in the comments.
