Here is a booklet of activities inspired from resources I found on TES as well as some I made myself. This is directed to a difficult Y9 lower ability group but can also be completed by y7 and y8. Here is a GCSE reading activity that I've written on the topic of school life, which I have just covered with my Yr 10 set 2. It is made of a text with 12 comprehension questions in English. You can then also use the paragraphs of the text for a group activity and get students to translate the text and/or identify what tense is used in each paragraph, or even highlight good expressions they could reuse in their future Controlled Assessment or essays . Good revision for GCSE and good resource to show the students what a good Coursework (Controlled Assessment) should look like. Enjoy!

PowerPoint to introduce the topic of food and drink in Spanish and useful to teach how to order food at the restaurant. Can be very useful if printed in a Booklet format (6 slides per A4) and handed directly to the students. I made it for my Y9 groups who are just starting Spanish this half term. 4 years ago I created a big 'WORLD CUP&' French booklet for my students of KS3 and was amazed at how popular it got both in the classroom with my students and on the TES (over 5000 downloads !). So in 2014, I decided to create a similar booklet about the World Cup in Brazil! This booklet of activities is an easy and fun way to get your students to revise their knowledge and to get them back into the spirit of the World Cup in Brazil by learning fun facts about it. This is a worksheet I made for my fast track Frencg y9 gcse students before the reading exam. Many of my students used to fall for it and pick the wrong answer because they were going too fast. This gave them the tools to learn how to read well and get familiar with the common tricks from reading papers. We went through it together in class as an interactive activity and they really enjoyed it!

Here is a worksheet with a range of activities that help students understand how to approach the reading exams and especially how to 'get it right' in the most challenging sections. There is a section on the negative form and antonyms, a section on implied phrases and a section on synonyms. My students really found it helpful and we then did many games and starter activities in the following lessons about antonyms and synonyms which really improved their confidence. Hope it helps!

In GCSE reading papers, I found out that the one activity where students lost many points was the gap filling one. There is a text (often higher level) and students then need to fill in the gaps of a summary of that same text using synonyms. Here is a text I wrote followed by a gap filling activity and then in red at the bottom of the page is the solution. Hope you find it helpful!

Used with my Y10 French to revise before a grammar test. This worksheet covers: perfect tense with regular and irregular verbs, perfect tense with ETRE, perfect tense with reflexive verbs. Feel free to use and adapt for your own classes.

Here is a reading activity based on a film review I wrote about a film we had watched in class: 'the pianist'. Although the film is in English, I felt the fact that it was directed by French director Roman Polanski justified studying it in a French lesson. The topic of the film also makes it an ideal reason for a cross-curricular link with other departments (humanities or music). After watching the film, students completed this reading comprehension activity, which they then used as a model for writing their own film review about their chosen film.

Here is an activity I did with my Y12 French AS class on the topic of Youth Culture and Concerns - Sex and Prevention. It consists of the following: - a video about young people and sex. - the script of the video with gaps, for students to fill in while watching the video. - a few links for related videos (you may want to show them to students to trigger ideas and class discussion) - questions in French to be answered by students in writing or orally in class.

Here is a quick Revision Sheet on the topic of School and Education. Ideal for KS3 mixed-ability groups as a starter, plenary or homework. All students are asked to complete the worksheet and then work in pairs on translating the whole text into English using a dictionary and underlining the words they did not know before.
