Joseph Lister and antiseptics

(3)
This lesson was designed for the Level 2 GCSE History Edexcel course. It would also fit with the SHP course surgery paper or new GCSE 9-1 medicine unit. It looks at Joseph Lister and opposition to his work. Students then complete a 7 mark key features question with exemplar answers and markschemes. It was planned for a lower ability group but you could extend and adapt it for higer ability students. The LO is to identify who Lister was, explain reasons for oppositions and evaluate how far problems of surgery had been solved. There is also a brief consideration of which factors helped his work. You need an information sheet about his work to go with the lesson. I used the edexcel SHP double page spread but the IGCSE textbook or any other information page about his work would also work.
