A comprehensive booklet to support understanding of the novel, The Bone Sparrow, which includes pre-reading, reading, post-reading and re-reading activities. Begin with prediction work before a cold read. During the cold read, create an index to support post and re-reading activities. Post-reading activities are designed to support a full understanding of the novel while also introducing Year 7 approaches to studying novels. The concept of ‘because, but, so’ is introduced, along with analytical verbs to support sentence level development of academic writing. After ‘thinking big’ move onto close analysis, drawing together the post-reaading activites. Includes glossary and Frayer models to support vocabulary development. My Year 7 class have really enjoyed this unit of work!
