Buoyancy, Density, Floating and Sinking

(15)
These presentations cover the topics: Buoyancy, Density, Floating and Sinking. It also mentions Archimedes principle of water displacement. This is a lesson aimed at higher ability KS3 students. I have also attached a simplified presentation that could be used for lower ability students. Included are come big questions to get them thinking, some calculations so they can apply their knowledge to exam questions and also a short practical activity/demo 'rainbow test tubes'. This involves different concentrations of coloured sugar solutions. They must be added in order of density from most - least or it won't work!

A game of survival

(1)
Fun resource used as a recap lesson (revision) for adaptation. Includes a wordsearch used as a starter activity that promotes discussion - and introduces the word 'mimicry&'. Then, students must use their existing knowledge to design and produce a board game, based on adaptations and survival. Students can then take the opportunity to bring extra resources in from home and then play the games - this also provides an opportunity for peer/self assessment.
