2017 General Knowledge Quiz - A fun quiz that's aimed at school aged students

(2)
I always do a quiz for the end of the year based upon songs from the last year, modern celebrities and fun general knowledge (the students love the guessing the numerical values of the ‘world records’ section) Usually takes about an hour but I have done it in over 4 rounds in form time… questions are not super hard so most teams and students will achieve well… but in every round are a couple of harder questions to test the students. Enjoy.

Time to complete: 1 hr Extension Tasks: 2-3 hours. Overview of the resource can be found here: https://youtu.be/zttP1vV3aRE Sketchup Free is a totally free (no sign ups, credit cards, subscriptions) web based version of Sketchup. All you need is a computer and web-browser to use it. I’ve been teaching Sketchup to school and college students for around 12 years and I use these handouts to teach my students the basics of it. This is an easy to follow 26 page step- by-step guide that should take an hour to finish. Once completed the students should have all the basic skills to do their own designs. You could use it for a cover lesson.

Product Design; Guide to producing an Architectural Render from a SketchUp model using free software

(1)
This tutorial is primarily aimed at students currently undertaking A level Edexcel Product Design Graphic Products, AQA Product Design, OCR Design Technology and WJEC / Eduqas Design Technology. The Tutorial can also be used for any students studying Architecture or it could simply be used in any context the teacher feels appropriate to the learning of their class. The main purpose of the lesson is teach the students the basics of producing an architectural render through the sketch-up plugin in ‘Twilight Render’ However, the lesson isn’t a comprehensive guide to using ‘Twilight Render’ but a quick and easy introductory lesson – in my experience (as a teacher) though students quickly master the program just by going through the basics provided in this lesson and probably won’t need to master any of the additional options to produce effect and quick renders of their work.

Architecture / Product Design. Beginners guide to using SketchUp to create a Modernism style villa

I use this in conjunction with my 'Modernism' architecture theory lesson to cement learning and also teach my Product Design students how to use Trimble SketchUp (a free to use 3D software package). It assumes students have no knowledge of SketchUp at all and my students (KS4/5) have never struggled in completing the tutorial. With guidance the handout could be used with KS3 students though I would talk them through key concepts with an computer connected to a screen / overhead projector.

Product Design: "Draw" in the style of a professional Product Designer

This is a resource that utilises Trimble Sketch-up Make (free to download) and Pixlr.com (a free-on-line version of Photoshop) to create 'drawings' of ideas that look like professional Product Design drawings. I wrote the resource after seeing numerous Product Design students struggling in presenting their ideas. Drawings were often low in standard and would consequently have a negative impact upon their coursework. All students I've given this resource to have admired how easy it is to follow and how much better their design ideas look. I've used this resource with KS4 + 5 Students. The powerpoint is 5 pages long.

Modernism

This is a student friendly guide to Modernism (architecture). I use it as a 20 - 30 minute starter for then Teaching Trimble Sketchup... as Modernism is quite 'blocky' it enables the students to then easily design a Modernism Style Villa. I use this tutorial for teaching Art and Design movements in the Edexcel Product Design Specification but it can be used in for any Art and Design Movement teachings.
