ALPS lesson with a selection of experiments to investigate the effect different factors such as light intensity, colour, temp and pH have on the rate of photosynthesis. Experiment is set within a project to set up and maintain an aquarium in the lab.

Lesson on Energy calculations with worksheet for a low mixed ability year 10 class. I used Molymods to build the molecules before working out the bond energies.

Differentiated lessons with stretch tasks designed around the game “would you rather” in which pupils independently research 3 different methods of gas exchange (Gills, Spiricles, Amphibian system) and create an argument to support one they would rather use. Its a bit of fun for an otherwise boring topic. My year 8’s loved it. Differentiated worksheet for lower ability. Research information sheets included in the powerpoint.

Investigation, based on a SAPs practical, into which carbohydrates are found in different parts of plants. Schultze solution is required and whilst it can be ordered online, its actually pretty straight forward to make using online CLEAPSS recipe. Quite a lot of work for one lesson, you may want to spread it over 2. Leads to a nice discussion on the role of carbohydrates in plants.
