Used in a science club. Pupils use flame tests, footprint impressions, fingerprint analysis and blood spatter analysis and looking at suspect profiles to solve the crime of 'who killed Santa?'. This resource was designed for a top set class to research as part of a stretch and challenge FLIP learning homework. It was set over the October half term to research before we studied the unit in class. It is based around the OCR 21st Century SOW - topic C3 - linking in fractional distillation, cracking, covalent bonding and comparing biofuels to crude oil (which requires them to recap work from C1). It comprises 4 x 6 mark questions that are based around a small amount of data given at the beginning of the question. I have also included a marking proforma that can be used to mark the work they hand in, which lists the criteria using a level based mark scheme. This would also work well as a revision resource after having studied the topic.

A quick power point I made to explain good exam technique to pupils. Makes for a good starter, show them the 3 possible answers for an exam Q. Using mini white boards, ask them to pick the correct answer and write why they chose it. Then go through what the correct answer is and why.

The card sort is double up onto the one page (2 to a page). Just print out and cut out!

A small A5 sheet (differentiated) to help pupils write their aims and methods in science lessons. Worked particularly well when the year 7s started writing up their practicals for the first time. It also has a level guide on it, for pupils (and teachers) to follow.

I used this data to give to differentiated groups. The groups had to plot the graph and then make a presentation explaining the difference between cause and correlation using the graphs.

Great revision activity. Every pupil has a card with an answer and question. Someone reads out a question, then who ever thinks they have the answer reads it out. If it's correct they then read out the question they have on their card. If you have a small class, pupils can have more than one card each.
