How you could use this resource:
Read the story Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs go to School.
At the end of the story talk to the children about why stegosaurus and the other little boy were so worried at the start of the day. Let the children talk with a partner about what they were feeling at the beginning of the day. Excited, happy, maybe a bit worried.
Delve a bit deeper into why the children were excited or happy about starting school again?
If appropriate and or necessary delve a bit deeper into why children were a little worried.
Ie they not been at school for ages, liked being at home etc.
Tell the children that they are going to have a dinosaur each to write or draw on (according to age and development) about what they were looking forward to this year.
Provide the printed sheets (5 different types of dinosaur).
Show them Harry’s bucket (A3 if you can manage it). Make a slit in the mouth of the bucket so that some of the dinosaurs can be peeping out.
Cut out dinosaurs.
When complete you have an instant first day display.
