Using Products of Primes

(1)
I have made this resource as an extension for my higher ability top group Year 10 students who are confident in expressing any number as a product of its prime factors. When they are working through this task it will give me time to give additional support to those who still need help find HCF and LCM from Product of Primes.

Finding the equation of a tangent to a circle

(0)
A basic introduction to finding the equation of a tangent. This assumes students already know if two lines are perpendicular their gradients is a product of - 1 and have the ability to find equations of lines by substituting into y = mx + c

Although written for a very low ability Year 10 group, this set of activities can be used with KS2 and KS3 students as well

Reflection and Translation worksheets

As a teacher of a very weak Year 7 group who I saw once a fortnight it was best to use worksheets. The Check up on Reflection worksheet was a great starter and made good display work for those who finished quickly - they then had to add colour. The translation sheets were also good for students to work at their own pace and to reinforce the need for neat diagrams using rulers and pencils.

Fractional Indices investigation

(0)
A resource I made for a top set Year 10 students to give them the opportunity to formulate the rule for fractional indices. No calculators were allowed so it also forced them to remember their cube and square numbers.

Naming Linear Graphs

(0)
A simple starter to get students to think about the methods learnt for how to find the equation of straight lines. My students seldom go over their work in their own time, so these starters force them to check back in their notes and it is useful to give them time to tidy up their notes or recap - and a good way to help those who miss lessons find out the basic of topics missed.

This starter makes students think about finding the equations of graphs and then using their knowledge to identify the inequalities creating the shaded regions.

Pencil Box Project

(0)
This is a problem solving task I have made - set at 3 different levels with different levels of instructions (green - easiest) With the new GCSE Maths 9 - 1, I find my students are not used to thinking through and solving problems. This is suitable for both Foundation and Higher as both tiers need to know and understand Pythagoras' Theorem and areas involving circles.

Finding equations of linear graphs from two points

(0)
This is a match-up activity to reinforce finding gradients and equations of linear graphs. Students should be guided to use two points from each graph to calculate the gradient Using the gradient and one point students should be able to find the equation of the graph. Pair up each graph with the correct equation, gradient and y-intercept. Extension task: Which point will lie on which graph?

Multiplying by 11 by adding

A simple powerpoint showing how to multiply by 11 through addition The idea behind this task is to get students to look for patterns and come up with a method
