A lesson to explore the historical issues associated with the China one child policy as well as the ongoing impact that it has had upon the country. Students are then asked to plot a “living graph” looking at the emotions of those involved before evaluating the overall success of the policy. The lesson is currently taught in Year 8 as part of our Middle East & Asia topic and is designed to be 100 minutes in length.

The lesson looks at the historical events of Chernobyl, the global impact that the explosion had (map skills) and then some emphasis on creative writing from a survivors perspective. The lesson ends by discussing why people would choose to visit such a place.

A lesson that is taught as part of our Year 8 Middle East & Asia SOL and is designed to be 100 minutes in length. The lesson looks at the formation and importance of glaciers before exploring the unique measures being taken to “save the glaciers”. Students are then asked to evaluate the different methods.

A lesson as part of the Year 8 SOL which specifically looks at the different attempts of scientists to “save Antarctica” through the use of cloud seeding, artificial glaciers etc. Real emphasis on “evaluation” of the different proposed strategies and the importance of Antarctica for the whole planet. The lesson is currently taught over 100 minutes but could easily be adapted to 60 minutes.

A lesson focusing on the different adaptations of animals that live within Antarctica. Students gather information on the different animals before creating their own annotated animals that could survive the harsh conditions. This lesson is currently taught to year 8 students as part of an Antarctica SOL. The lesson is currently 100 minutes in length but could be used over 60 minutes.

A creative writing based lesson asking students to write a letter to Donald Trump to explain the specific evidence that we posses to prove that climate change is not a “hoax”. The lesson is designed for 100 minutes but could be adapted.

A lesson currently taught as part of our Year 9 Dark toruism SOL and is 100 minutes in length. The lesson looks at the story of 9/11 and the geographic impact that the event had. The lesson then explores the memorial site at Ground Zero and asks students to decide on the appropriateness of such a site and whether people should have to pay to visit such places.

A lesson that is currently taught as part of our Year 9 Dark tourism SOL and is 100 minutes in length. Students expore the conditions of those living in Kibera slum anf the opinions of the local people in relation to slum tourism. An information comprehension task is used before a creative task for students to design their own protest signs in relation to the opinions displayed by local people.

A lesson that is taught as part of our Year 8 Middle East & Asia topic and is 100 minutes in length. This lesson can be used with computers OR by using the research information slide included. Students are asked to explore the controversial NEOM project to decide on its sustainability before creating a “living graph” to look at stakeholders and how they are individually affected e.g. nomad tribes, construction workers etc.

A lesson currently taught as part of the Year 8 Middle East & Asia topic which is 100 minutes in length. Student investigate whether life actually can exist in the desert by focusing on areas such as animals, nomads and challenges facing the Gobi. Students are then asked to create their own National Geographic article based on their journalistic research. The lesson is currently set of for students to team teach each other but can be very easily adapted.

This is a lesson that is taught as part of our Year 8 Middle East & Asia SOL and is 100 minutes in length. The lesson looks at the sectors of industry in India and the main task focuses on the skill of drawing a compound/stacked bar chart to represent sector change over time. Students must then describe the changes and explain the implications of this change for India.

A lesson that is currently taught as part of our “Equator” topic in Year 8. This lesson is 100 minutes in length and focuses on the impact of tourism within this unique area.

A lesson currently taught as part of our Year 8 “Equator” topic and is 100 minutes in length due to an extended 20 minute video to watch. Students initially investigate the direction of travel of transmigrants before following the story of one specific family on their transmigration journey. Students ultimately need to decide if the journey is a success or failure and whether the policy worked. Lesson could easily work as a 60 minute lesson in its current format.

A lesson that is currently taught as part of our Year 9 Hazards topic and is 100 minutes in length. Student investigate the causes of avalanches through a guided reading task before plotting data on the deaths caused by avalanches into a line graph. Students complete the lesson by looking at an OS map to decide on the best course of mitigation for avalanches in this specific area.
