A complete stop motion animation unit, suitable for media studies, film studies, art or photography, and could be adapted for English (creative writing). Looks at a brief history of stop motion animation, case study of Pingu and builds up to a production of students own animations. Includes evaluative tasks and certificates for 'Movie Awards'! I used with year 9 media studies class as an engaging first media unit.

Unit of work introducing students to analysing non-English language films (Pan's Labyrinth is a Spanish film that is accessible and engaging). I did this unit with Year 9 as at GCSE Film Studies with OCR they need to study a Non- English language film. I used this as a way of making it less terrifying for them!

Introduction to this part of the GCSE literature exam. This is based on AQA mark schemes but can easily be adapted. Includes a range of unseen poems and model answers, approximately 8 lessons worth of teaching and questions, with extra poems and questions for further practice.

Creative writing lesson building on a horror stories unit or easy, engaging, stand alone cover work for students.

I used this with year 9 as an introduction to film studies. The film is a very engaging one for a range of year groups BUT please look at the IMDB parental guidance notes if you haven't seen it- there are some scenes of sexual activity and violence and general disturbing themes throughout. The outcome is for the students to write an analytical essay on the presentation of young people/ teenagers in film.

Using the wedding scene from the play as the extract (Act 2 scene 6), explore a question with your students, considering how to tackle the extract, draw in the rest of the text, improve their expression, and hit the AOs. Resource is explanation of AOs in student friendly language, high level model paragraph for students to annotate, and suggestions of how to utilise the model to improve students’ own writing and responses.

Fun lesson- ideal for a break the ice lesson or introduction into creative poetry writing. Perfect for younger years, but could be adapted for older (last task is a little young so would need to be changed).

A lesson to help students improve their writing, tops tips on how to start and what to do to make their writing more engaging and sophisticated. I have used with year 8 and year 11 without any changes, so lesson is perfect for any classes that need some support on freshening up their writing.
