This activity is designed to support the discovery of observational probabilities. It is a practical activity that requires taking the class outdoors to a visible road or finding a video of a suburban or city street that is 15 minutes long.
Students will work in groups and need to observe every event inside a 15 minute window (can be broken up into multiple 15 minute windows). They need to count the total occurring events as well as identify the number of the event of interest to find the observational probabilities.
Prior learning should include the structure of probability fractions (event of interest/total occurring events)
Two problem solving activities to start off a lesson after learning the Pythagorean Theorem.
