An introduction to the form and structure of ballads, placing the poetic form within the literary canon. Engages students with the poem’s interesting context, allowing them to become literary detectives and understand the possible intentions behind the writing of the poem. Improved annotation skills through focused questions and movement away from feature spotting. Evaluation of the poet’s use of linguistic and structural devices to create meanings, patterns and themes across the text. Encourages students to have a personal and organic reaction to the poem.

A visual aid to improve students’ understanding of the Wernicke’s and Broca’s Areas (language centres of the brain). Two visual aids and two worksheets for revision purposes included.

Colourful and concise explanation of the physiological changes that occur when the fight/flight system is triggered as a stress response. Key terms are explained and made accessible to students using a flow diagram and symbols for visual aid. Visual comparison of the effects of short-term and long-term stress to aid students’ understanding of the physiological impacts of acute/chronic stress. I project these infographs and use these instead of a power point, zooming in and explaining key components to the students to ensure their understanding of the entire system as well as its constituent parts. They have given excellent feedback for this method.
